The panther passant and concentric ring border are visible in negative relief, with the surface showing the natural flow lines and slight distortion inherent to the hammered bracteate technique. The reverse is otherwise featureless, with no additional decoration, inscription, or device. |

Völkermarkt (Völkermarkter Pfennige) operated as one of several regional mints active under Ottokar II of Bohemia during his control of Carinthia, and continued striking under his successors following his death at the Battle on the Marchfeld in 1278 — a defeat that ended Přemyslid ambitions in the Alpine duchies and returned the region to Habsburg influence. The bracket of dates 1275–1290 spans that political rupture directly, meaning specimens from this issue were struck under two fundamentally different ruling authorities without a change in type.
