Bracteate Heller

Münsterberg held minting rights as a ducal town under the Piast line of Silesian princes, but by the mid-fifteenth century the city itself was exercising those rights with increasing autonomy as ducal authority fragmented across the region's competing inheritances. The bracteate heller — struck on a single thin flan from one die — was the workhorse of local petty commerce, changing hands for bread and firewood rather than tax payments or trade settlement.
