Reverse description Central field displays a crowned rampant lion passant to the left, the heraldic symbol of León, set within a pronounced quatrefoil or lobate inner border with rounded lobes clearly visible. The lion is crowned and rendered in a stylized late medieval Gothic manner typical of Castilian hammered coinage of the early 15th century. A Latin legend encircles the design in the outer field, reading IOHANES DEI GRACIA REX. The flan is irregular, as is characteristic of hammered production, with portions of the legend partially off-flan.
