Obverse description Crowned royal arms of France (three fleurs-de-lis on a shield) displayed at center, flanked on either side by a crown, the entire composition enclosed within a trefoil frame. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown, and the flanking crowns are characteristic of the Provencal coinage of Louis XII. A beaded inner circle borders the design. The surrounding circular legend in uncial Latin letters reads: LVDOVI D G FRAn REX PRO COm L T, identifying the king as Louis, by the grace of God, King of France and Count of Provence.
