Obverse description Central field bears a crowned shield of France semé of fleurs-de-lis, flanked on either side by a crowned Gothic letter L, the royal initial of Louis XII. The shield is rendered in the French heraldic tradition of the period, with three fleurs-de-lis arranged 2-1. A circumscribed beaded inner circle frames the design, and the royal legend runs along the outer border in uncial lettering.
