Reverse description A long cross with flared terminals occupies the central field, its four angles each charged alternately with a fleur-de-lis and a crown, the whole enclosed within a quatrefoil frame formed by four lobed arches. The quatrefoil border is set against a plain field, surrounded by the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters. This devotional reverse type, invoking the blessing of the Holy Name, is characteristic of late medieval French royal billon coinage.
