The legend ΠΡΙΗ appears on the upper line and ΒΙΑΣ on the lower, both in bold, well-spaced Greek capital letters. The framing border of nested circular lines creates a distinctive decorative surround characteristic of Prienean bronze coinage of this period. |

Priene's coinage during this period reflects the city's precarious position between Seleucid and then Pergamene authority — the city formally passed to Attalid control around 188 BC following the Peace of Apamea, which redistributed much of western Asia Minor away from the Seleucids. Civic bronze issues like this one were produced under conditions where the city retained limited autonomy in local monetary matters even as larger political loyalties shifted overhead.
