| Obverse description | Bare-headed draped bust of Ercole II d'Este in left profile, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curly hair and beard in the Renaissance manner. Below the truncation, a small heraldic castle device serves as the mintmaster's mark. The bust occupies the majority of the field, with the legend disposed along the inner border of a beaded outer rim. The numeral IIII appears prominently beneath the bust, denoting his rank as fourth Duke of Ferrara. |

| Reverse description | An allegorical figure of Justice, draped and seated in right profile, dominates the field. In her right hand she extends a balance scale toward the right, while her left hand holds a downward-pointing halberd or sceptre, symbolising authority and equitable rule. The composition is executed in the refined Italian Renaissance style characteristic of Este coinage. The surrounding legend, derived from the Book of Wisdom, encircles the figure within a beaded border. |
