Obverse description The obverse bears a text block in relief with a large Roman numeral X at the top of the field, followed by a multi-line inscription commemorating the 10th Berg- und Hüttenmännischer Tag at the Bergakademie Freiberg, Saxony, dated 27–31 May 1958. The medal is struck in brown Böttger stoneware porcelain with a suspension hole at the top.

Reverse description The reverse depicts two miners in traditional Saxon mining dress standing as supporters on either side of the Freiberg city coat of arms, which shows a fortified wall with towers and a lion in the base. Crossed hammers and picks surmount the shield above. A small mark with crossed tools appears in the exergue at the bottom of the field.
