| Obverse description | The obverse bears a text block in relief with a large Roman numeral X at the top of the field, followed by a multi-line inscription commemorating the 10th Berg- und Hüttenmännischer Tag at the Bergakademie Freiberg, Saxony, dated 27–31 May 1958. The medal is struck in brown Böttger stoneware porcelain with a suspension hole at the top. |

| Reverse description | The reverse depicts two miners in traditional Saxon mining dress standing as supporters on either side of the Freiberg city coat of arms, which shows a fortified wall with towers and a lion in the base. Crossed hammers and picks surmount the shield above. A small mark with crossed tools appears in the exergue at the bottom of the field. |
