| Reverse description | The reverse displays a bold cross pattée or cross of Portugal centrally positioned within the field, a standard device employed on Portuguese colonial copper coinage of the period. A partial circular legend reading ANTONIVS TELLES DUX surrounds the cross, referencing António Teles de Meneses, Governor of Portuguese India. The strike is characteristically weak and off-center in places, with portions of the legend merging into the rough edge of the irregular flan. The surface shows natural porosity and encrustation consistent with a copper issue struck under colonial field conditions at the Diu mint. |
