A second beaded ring encloses an intermediate zone of radial spurs or lozenge-shaped decorative elements, creating a sunburst-like effect between the two concentric circles. The outer legend, running between the inner beaded circle and the coin's irregular rim, is divided into two concentric inscriptions reading: MOnETA nOVA TVLLEnSIS EPIS and SIGnVM CRVCIS, together proclaiming the new episcopal coinage of Toul and the sign of the cross.
