Reverse description Central field displays a plain cross pattée with equal arms set within a raised beaded inner circle, the arms of the cross reaching to the border. A second beaded ring encloses an intermediate zone of radial spurs or lozenge-shaped decorative elements, creating a sunburst-like effect between the two concentric circles. The outer legend, running between the inner beaded circle and the coin's irregular rim, is divided into two concentric inscriptions reading: MOnETA nOVA TVLLEnSIS EPIS and SIGnVM CRVCIS, together proclaiming the new episcopal coinage of Toul and the sign of the cross. The overall design is typical of the gothic episcopal minting tradition of the Lorraine region in the early 14th century.
