Obverse description Half-length figure of Thomas I, Lord of Haldenstein, facing right and depicted in period dress, set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend reads THOMAS · L · B · AB · EHRENFELS, identifying the issuing lord. The portrait is rendered in a late Renaissance hammered style typical of small Swiss lordship coinages of the early seventeenth century.

The shield incorporates the heraldic charges associated with the Schauenstein-Ehrenfels family who held the lordship. The encircling Latin legend DNS · IN · HALDENSTAIN identifies the issuer as Lord of Haldenstein. The die work is characteristic of small hammered billon issues from the Graubünden region of the early seventeenth century.
