Obverse description Central field displays a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Lords of Haldenstein and Ehrenfels, surmounted by a crested helm with an eagle displayed as crest. The shield is set within a beaded inner circle, with the circular Latin legend THOMAS · L · B · AB · EHRENFELS running along the outer periphery, identifying Thomas I as Lord Baron of Ehrenfels. The die-work is characteristic of early seventeenth-century Swiss hammered coinage, with bold, hand-engraved relief.
