Obverse description Central field displays the crowned arms of Bern — a diagonal-banded shield bearing the Bernese bear passant — enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A displayed imperial eagle with spread wings surmounts the shield at the top. The circular legend MONETA BERNENSIS runs between the inner beaded circle and the outer rim, rendered in late Gothic uncial characters typical of late 15th-century Swiss municipal coinage. The overall design reflects the bold, high-relief style characteristic of early Swiss hammered silver issues.
