| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of Lucerne, divided per pale: dexter half plain, sinister half hatched, set on a square cartouche. The letter 'L' appears in the left field and 'V' in the right field, flanking the shield. Above the shield, an eagle displayed facing left. The surrounding legend is rendered in Gothic (uncial) script, reading MONETA LUCERNENSIS. The overall style is characteristic of early sixteenth-century Swiss municipal coinage. |
