| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a quartered episcopal coat of arms of the Bishopric of Basel, surmounted by a mitre, and flanked by foliate or scrollwork ornamentation. The shield displays the heraldic charges of the see and of the Roggenbach family. The date appears divided across the field, with the year partially flanking the central arms. The circumferential legend in Latin reads IO:CONRA·D:G·EPIS·BASIL, identifying the issuing bishop Johann Konrad I von Roggenbach as Bishop of Basel by the grace of God. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and bold relief typical of mid-seventeenth century hammered billon coinage. |
