Obverse description Central bipartite shield displaying the impaled arms of the Bishopric of Basel and the personal arms of Bishop Jakob Christoph Blarer von Wartensee, with small crosses flanking the shield to either side and the last two digits of the date (98) positioned above. The shield is set within an inner beaded circle, with the circular Latin legend running in the outer field. The coin exhibits the characteristically irregular flan shape typical of hammered silver coinage of this period.
