| 正面描述 | Centrally placed shield bearing the cantonal arms of St. Gallen — a fascio or abbey staff on a diagonally hatched field — flanked on either side by sprays of oak leaves tied at the base, forming a decorative wreath. The circular legend CANTON ST. GALLEN runs along the upper periphery, with a beaded inner border encircling the entire design. |

St. Gallen had only recently been reconstituted as a Swiss canton in 1803 under the Napoleonic Act of Mediation, which dissolved the Helvetic Republic and handed the former abbey lands their first meaningful political autonomy. These small billon pieces belong to that transitional window before the Congress of Vienna reshaped Swiss federal arrangements yet again — a four-year window in which the new canton was still building the institutional infrastructure to issue its own coinage.
Billon quality varies noticeably across this short run, reflecting inconsistent silver content rather than any single mint's incompetence.
