Obverse description Central field displays the arms of Basel — a black crook on a white field — set within an elaborate Baroque scrollwork cartouche with foliate ornaments. The shield is rendered in high relief against the coin's billon surface. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design, reading MONETA REIPVB. BASILENSIS, separated from the central motif by an inner beaded border. The overall composition reflects the refined Rococo decorative style characteristic of 18th-century Swiss municipal coinage.
