Cardboard emergency coinage from the Republic of Valais is among the more unusual survivals in Swiss numismatics. The 1628 issue falls within a period of severe metal shortages affecting many Alpine cantons, when local authorities resorted to provisional fiduciary pieces that were never intended for long-term circulation.
HMZ 1#2-1074A is a recognized type, but examples in any condition above heavily worn are exceptionally rare — cardboard degrades rapidly in circulation, and survival depends almost entirely on early removal from use.
