Obverse description A crowned Spanish-style heraldic shield of Schwyz, displaying the canton's arms, is centered on an anchor cross with decorative elements along the outer edges. The shield is surrounded by a beaded inner border. The circumferential Latin legend, separated by star-shaped stops, reads MON : NOVA : SVITENSIS : with the date 1622 incorporated into the inscription. The overall design is characteristic of early seventeenth-century Swiss cantonal coinage, produced by the hammered technique with typical irregular flan shaping.
