| Beschrijving keerzijde | Two standing figures facing one another: at left, the Emperor John VI Kantakouzenos in full imperial regalia, wearing a crown and loros, and at right, St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki, the military martyr-saint, clad in armor. The two figures jointly hold between them an object, likely a labarum or patriarchal cross, symbolizing divine legitimacy conferred upon the emperor. Partial Greek legends appear in the field to either side of the figures, though portions are poorly struck and largely illegible on this specimen. A beaded border encircles the composition. |
