Obverse description Frontal enthroned figure of King Fernando I, crowned and robed, holding a sceptre in the right hand, set within a beaded inner circle. The king is depicted in a stylized Gothic manner characteristic of late 14th-century Iberian coinage. Flanking the throne are decorative elements including rosettes and small heraldic devices. A continuous Gothic uncial legend encircles the design within a beaded border, reading FERNANDVS : REX : PORTVGALI : AL, with the inscription occasionally interrupted by mint marks depending on the variety.
