| 正面描述 | Draped bust of Pope Sixtus V facing left, wearing a papal vestment with a star device visible in the lower field. The effigy is rendered in a crude but characterful hammered style typical of small Italian feudal coinage of the late sixteenth century. A partial legend in Latin surrounds the bust, though much of the lettering is worn or off-flan on this irregular planchet. The papal keys are faintly discernible at the lower left of the field. |

Castiglione delle Stiviere's right to strike coinage derived from its status as an Imperial fief under the Gonzaga branch that ruled the town — a minor lordship that nonetheless jealously exercised its minting privileges during the late sixteenth century. Rodolfo Gonzaga, who held the lordship from 1586 until his death in 1593, issued this baiocchella during a period when small billon fractions were chronically scarce across the Po valley, with larger powers routinely absorbing or debasing the petty coinage of their neighbors.
MIR 144/1 distinguishes this as the primary variety of the type.
