| Obverse description | Bare head of Ercole II d'Este facing left, rendered in a plain Renaissance style with minimal detail. The portrait occupies the central field of the flan, with the neck truncation at the lower edge. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading HERCVLES . II. DVX . REGII . IIII ., identifying the ruler as Ercole II, fourth Duke of Reggio. The strike is irregular, typical of hammered coinage of the period, with the legend partially weak at points around the periphery. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays the Latin inscription REGIVM LEPIDI arranged in four lines across the field, reading RE / GIVM / + LE / PIDI, identifying the mint city of Reggio Emilia by its ancient Roman name, Regium Lepidi. A small cross mark appears before the third line. The lettering is bold and well-spaced in a plain Roman capital style, filling the flan with no additional design elements. The surface shows typical porosity and irregular shape consistent with a hammered bronze small denomination of the sixteenth century. |
