Reverse description The reverse displays the quartered heraldic arms of the Macdonald family within a shield, surmounted by a gauntleted hand holding a cross as crest. A scrolled banner below the shield bears the motto PER MARE PER TERRAS, with the recipient name JOANNI YOUNG engraved across the centre and PRAEMIUM below. The legend MACDONALDIANUM arcs around the upper field, and the date 1831 appears on a cartouche at the base, with additional engraved inscriptions in the side fields.
