Obverse description Central cartouche in the form of a decorative scroll bearing the legend INDUSTRIAL & ART EXHIBITION in two lines. Above the scroll, symbols of industry are depicted in high relief, including a gear wheel, a blacksmith's anvil, a shovel, and a bellows. Below, symbols of the fine arts are shown: a set square, compasses, a painter's palette, and a mahlstick. The maker's signature VAUGHTON and BIRM appears at the lower field.

Reverse description The reverse features an olive wreath encircling the central field, tied at the base. At the top, a draped scroll cartouche bears the legend ABERDEEN EXHIBITION in two lines. Below the scroll, an ornamental volute separates the inscription AWARDED TO above the engraved recipient name E.M. MIDDLETON. British hallmarks are visible at the lower field, confirming the 9-carat gold (.375) composition.
