Obverse description Left-facing bare-headed bust of John Hampden in high relief, with long flowing hair and lace collar, filling most of the field. The legend 'HAMPDEN' arcs along the left rim and '1594 - 1643' along the right rim. The engraver's signature 'A.B. WYON SC. 1863' appears in small lettering at the base of the truncation.
