Obverse description The crowned arms of Scotland in high relief at centre, displaying a rampant lion on the shield beneath a royal crown, supported on either side by chained unicorns rampant each bearing a flag. A thistle sprig appears below the shield, and the motto ribbon in the exergue reads NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSET. The circular legend around the field reads EDINBURGH & MIDLOTHIAN INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
