Obverse description Three-quarter facing bust of Captain Robert Falcon Scott in naval uniform and peaked cap, framed by a laurel wreath in the lower field. The dates JANUARY 2. 1902 and MARCH 5. 1904 appear on either side of the bust within the field, with a circular legend around the border reading TO CAPTAIN ROBERT FALCON SCOTT RN CVO FRGS COMMANDER OF THE EXPEDITION. The engraver's signature GILBERT BAYES appears at the base of the bust.

Reverse description An explorer in full Antarctic dress stands centrally in the field, with a sailing ship visible in the background and a kneeling figure tending to equipment at right. In the lower exergue, separated by a horizontal line, penguins and a seal are depicted in relief. The circular border legend reads PRESENTED BY THE ROYAL GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY FOR ANTARCTIC DISCOVERY.
