Obverse description Central shield bearing a palm tree above a lion passant, flanked by laurel and oak branches in high relief, with the dates 1888 and 1889 appearing on either side of the crest. The circular legend around the field reads DEUTSCH-OSTAFRIKANISCHE GESELLSCHAFT. A blank cartouche appears below the shield, with decorative scrollwork in the lower field.
