Obverse description Central device depicts the school's armorial bearing: a turreted gatehouse with a portcullis flanked by two large keys in relief, with the founding date A.D. 1553 in the exergue. A ribbon scroll beneath bears the school motto in three parts. The circular legend around the field reads KING EDWARD VI GRAMMAR SCHOOL TOTNES, with a star ornament at the base.
