Obverse description Two seated allegorical female figures, representing France (left, with RF shield) and Britannia (right, helmeted with Union shield), clasp hands in the centre of the field, encouraged by a standing winged figure of Peace bearing an olive branch above them. The legend LONDON MDCCCCVIII arcs around the upper field, with RF to the left. The engraver's signature F. BOWCHER F. 1908 appears in the lower exergue, with VAUGHTON BIRM. to the lower right.
