Obverse description The elaborately rendered arms of the University of St Andrews in high relief, depicting a central figure of Saint Andrew with outstretched arms set beneath a gothic architectural canopy, flanked by subsidiary shields and foliage, with a kneeling figure below. The circular legend surrounds the design, and the founding date appears in Roman numerals in the lower exergue.
