Reverse description A large gasometer in high relief dominates the upper portion of the reverse. Below it, a rectangular panel displays the conjoined busts in left-facing profile of four figures identified in the exergue as Perkin, Bunsen, Malam, and Clegg. The panel is flanked by two allegorical putti, one holding a torch and the other a gas lamp, with additional symbolic apparatus visible at the sides. A heraldic shield appears at the base beneath the title legend.
