Additional information

The kupang was the fractional gold unit of the Malay peninsula's coastal trading states, and Patani's issues circulated far beyond its borders — Portuguese and Dutch merchant records from the sixteenth century document Patani gold being accepted across the Strait of Malacca and into the archipelago trade networks. The Sultanate sat at a northern junction point of the maritime spice routes, which drove demand for small-denomination gold suitable for high-frequency exchange.

The Malik al-Adil ("the Just King") title appears on multiple Patani issues but cannot be reliably assigned to a single named sultan within the current historical record.
