Her foot rests on a helmet or other martial trophy placed at the base, symbolising martial valour and imperial strength. The figure is rendered in high relief with bold, confident engraving consistent with the output of the Rome mint during Vespasian's reign. The surrounding legend VIRTVS AVGVSTI is distributed around the periphery of the coin, enclosed within a beaded border. The overall composition conveys the Flavian dynastic emphasis on military virtue and the emperor's personal courage. |
