| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Victoria (Victory) stands in the centre of the field, depicted advancing or standing left, her large spread wings prominent behind her. She holds a wreath in her extended right hand and a palm branch in her left, both attributes standard to her iconographic type on Flavian gold coinage. The figure is rendered in flowing drapery with fine detail despite the softness of the strike. The abbreviated Latin legend VICT AVG is distributed in the field to either side of the central figure, within a beaded border. The composition reflects the Flavian dynastic emphasis on military victory and the legitimacy of Vespasian's accession following the Year of the Four Emperors. |
