| Reverse description | The reverse presents a civic oak wreath (corona civica) composed of two symmetrically arranged branches of oak leaves and acorns, tied at the base, encircling the field in a full wreath design. Within the wreath, the inscription S P Q R / OB C S is prominently displayed across two lines in bold capital letters, the abbreviation of the honorific formula awarded to the saviour of citizens. The plain, unadorned field within the wreath lends a monumental, epigraphic quality to the design. A beaded border surrounds the entire composition. This type directly evokes the corona civica traditionally bestowed upon Augustus and perpetuated as an emblem of imperial legitimacy. |
