Reverse description The reverse depicts the personification of Roma standing to the right, helmeted and draped, holding a spear or sceptre, while a kneeling male figure — likely representing a soldier or a personification of the Roman people — faces her from the left and extends his hand toward her in a gesture of supplication or pledge. The scene powerfully evokes the Flavian propaganda theme of Rome's renewal following the civil wars of 69 AD. The legend ROMA RESVRGENS is inscribed around the field, divided on either side of the figures. The composition is rendered with strong relief characteristic of early Flavian gold coinage struck at the Rome mint.
