The scene powerfully evokes the Flavian propaganda theme of Rome's renewal following the civil wars of 69 AD. The legend ROMA RESVRGENS is inscribed around the field, divided on either side of the figures. The composition is rendered with strong relief characteristic of early Flavian gold coinage struck at the Rome mint. |
