Obverse description Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, rendered with characteristic realism, the emperor's strong, mature features clearly delineated. The portrait is rendered in the Flavian style, with the laurel wreath rendered in fine detail around the cranium. The circumferential Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading from lower left around the upper field. The flan is somewhat irregular, as typical of early Flavian aurei struck in the transitional period of AD 69–70.
