She extends her right hand forward holding an olive branch, symbol of peace, while her left hand rests upon a sceptre or caduceus. The figure is rendered with careful attention to drapery folds, conveying serene authority. The legend PAX AVGVST is inscribed in the field, divided around the seated figure, within a beaded border. The type deliberately evokes the Augustan ideal of imperial peace restored following the tumultuous civil wars of AD 68–69. |
