| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts the celebrated Judaea Capta composition commemorating Rome's conquest of Judaea. At left stands a Roman trophy of arms — a standard surmounted by a helmet and hung with captured armour and shields — beside which a helmeted Roman soldier stands at rest in military dress. To the right, a female figure personifying Judaea sits in an attitude of mourning, her head bowed, draped in garments that fall loosely to the ground. The exergual legend IVDAEA is incised in the lower field, flanked by a beaded border. This reverse type, disseminated across multiple denominations, served as a powerful propaganda statement of Roman victory in the Jewish War of AD 66–70. |
