Parthia Capta issues were struck to commemorate Trajan's annexation of Parthian territory beginning in 114 AD, a campaign that pushed Roman boundaries further east than they would ever reach again. The conquest was short-lived — within three years, widespread revolt across the new provinces forced Hadrian to abandon the gains entirely, making the triumphal coinage outlast the victory it celebrated.
