Obverse description Laureate draped bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, depicted with short curly hair beneath the laurel wreath and a paludamentum (military cloak) fastened at the right shoulder. The portrait displays the characteristic strong, realistic features of Trajanic imperial portraiture in the high Roman style. The surrounding legend reads IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC, arranged clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The engraving is of fine workmanship typical of the Rome Mint during Trajan's later reign, with bold relief and careful attention to anatomical detail in the facial features.
