Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, rendered in high relief with naturalistic portraiture characteristic of Trajanic imperial coinage. The emperor is depicted with a short, closely cropped wreath of laurel leaves encircling his head, and his cuirassed or draped shoulder is visible at the bust truncation. The circular Latin legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor with his full titulature. The portrait displays the strong, idealized facial features associated with official Roman imperial die engraving of the early second century AD.
