| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing figure of Jupiter, nude save for a chlamys draped over both forearms, occupies the left portion of the reverse field, facing right toward the emperor. Jupiter extends his right hand forward, wielding a thunderbolt over the togate figure of Trajan, who stands to the right facing left, raising a sceptre in his left hand in a gesture of reception or supplication. Jupiter holds a long vertical sceptre in his left hand. The composition conveys divine legitimation of imperial authority, a recurring ideological theme in Trajanic coinage. The reverse legend is disposed around the circumference of the flan, with the field left otherwise uncluttered to emphasize the figural group. |
