Immediately before the horse stands a soldier facing front, armed with a spear and shield. Behind the mounted emperor, three additional soldiers are shown, evoking the imperial military procession. The composition conveys the solemnity and martial grandeur of the Profectio, the formal imperial departure for campaign. The reverse legend AVGVSTI PROFECTIO is inscribed in the field. |
